Featuring your CHARACTER in interviews helps you stand out.
Interviewing is hard
If you want to stand out in the interview you need to be prepared. Very prepared. Whether you are job seeking or gunning for a promotion.
You can improve your chances with thoughtful answers to common interview questions. But – and this is a big “but” – fight the urge to sound like everyone else.
Canned, generic answers are a turnoff (you don’t want your potential managers to be playing “Interview Bingo”).
How?
Be authentic. “Being genuine and authentic allows you to establish a strong connection with others. When you are true to yourself, people can sense your sincerity and are more likely to trust and resonate with you.”
Be you.
“You” is your character. The values that guide your choices. And it just happens that employers rank character as the most important thing when looking to hire or promote talent.
It’s a win-win. A career-growth twofer.
Practice putting character front and center
We don’t often tell other people about our honesty, integrity, or humility. It feels awkward. And maybe even a little highfalutin.
Time to put those hesitations aside. If employers value character, then it’s up to us to boldly demonstrate it to them.
We can be comfortable speaking about our own integrity and confident in sharing examples. Which means we need practice!
Here to help
We want to help. We weave character into sample answers to some of the most common interview questions. Try them out for yourselves. Put “you” into your answers!
- Tell me about yourself.
- What is your greatest strength?
- What is your greatest weakness?
- Why are you interested in this position?
- How will you impact the company?
Let’s keep making CHARACTER count at work.
